IPL 2024: Bhuvneshwar Kumar opens up about his last over heroics against Rajasthan Royals

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar reflected on his match-winning performance in the final over against Rajasthan Royals (RR), crediting his composure and focus on execution for securing a thrilling one-run victory for his team in IPL 2024.

Bhuvneshwar, named Player of the Match for his fast bowling, had a dream start, picking up two crucial wickets in his first over, including the dangerous Jos Buttler and in-form Sanju Samson. With Rajasthan needing 13 runs from the final over, the pressure was immense, but the experienced bowler held his nerve.

“I told everyone process is very important,” Bhuvneshwar said in the post-match presentation. “I was literally thoughtless, I was not thinking about the result. I was just trying to do what I can do.”

His strategy paid off as he dismissed the explosive Rovman Powell on the final ball of the match, sending the Hyderabad crowd into a frenzy.

“I was so detached from the result”: Bhuvneshwar

This win was particularly significant for Bhuvi, who received a Player of the Match award in the IPL after seven years.

“I knew if I could bowl just two good balls, and if it went to the last ball, anything could happen,” the SRH seamer added. “It was a full toss, I know, but he missed it.

“I was not thinking about the one extra fielder up, or whatever the restriction was there, I was so detached from the result. I wasn’t thinking about where the fielder is, where he is going to hit, where I’m gonna bowl, I was so focused on the process, that was the only thing I was doing.”
