New England went back to the quarterback position in the sixth round of the draft.

The New England Patriots went back to the quarterback position with their second sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. After they added Drake Maye third overall on Thursday, they now brought Tennessee QB Joe Milton in with the 193rd pick.

While the two passers operate in different spheres when it comes to NFL outlook, both could find themselves on the Patriots’ roster come the regular season.

6-193 QB Joe Milton (Tennessee)

Bernd Buchmasser: Milton has all the arm talent in the world; if he hits the broad side of a barn chances are he just lasers a hole straight through it. Hitting the broad side of that barn might have been a problem for him at times in college, but at this point in the draft you invest in traits you think you can develop. And Milton has some intriguing ones. | A

Brian Hines: A double-dip at QB for the Patriots with “Bazooka Joe”. Milton has one of the strongest arms in all of football (maybe ever) to pair with elite size at the position. He has ways to go as a passer, but his top-tier physical traits make him an interesting developmental prospect. | B

With Milton in the mix, the Patriots now have five quarterbacks under contract. He and the aforementioned Drake Maye are joined by Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe, and Nathan Rourke.
