“I still have the fire inside,” David Goffin still wants to impress

David Goffin, former top-10 player, currently ATP No.107, has lived the last few years hard and, in 2023, participated in several Challenger tournaments to regain confidence in his tennis.

The 2017 Nitto ATP Finals finalist talked about his 2024 goals, saying: “I feel like I still have that fire inside; so, I’m happy to keep working, I’m very focused on improving both my physical condition and my tennis. I’m really happy to see where I’m at now. The goal is to win two more games this week and try to get back into the top 100, that’s what I’m working for. I hope to go game after game, gradually gaining confidence and returning higher in the standings.”

Goffin, winner of 6 ATP titles, the last won in the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakech in 2022, continued the interview by underlining: “I want to offer high-level tennis again, I know I still have it in my racket. I love playing tennis , this is the truth. I love pushing myself during every training session, I love the feeling I get during every workout. I hope it’s only a matter of time before the good feelings translate onto the pitch when he plays matches.”

Meanwhile, Goffin is trying to qualify for the Australian Open main draw

Belgian tennis player David Goffin’s 2024 began with his participation in the Australian Open qualifiers and his presence at the Challenger tournament in Canberra, in which he lost in the quarter-finals to Dominic Koepfer. In the first round of qualifying for the first Major of the season, Goffin overcame the Italian Stefano Travaglia and then beat the British Harris in three sets. In the next round, David will challenge the Canadian Gabriel Diallo. Goffin reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Slam in 2017, when he lost to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, a result he equaled at Wimbledon in 2019 and 2022.
