How to Ff in Dota 2 without requiring your team to surrender

on

Much like every multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that involves multiple players, Dota 2 is a game where teamwork makes the dream work. Yet, when things do go south in a match, the most common dilemma that most players will think about is how to ff in Dota 2.

How to surrender in Dota 2

‘Ff’ is the abbreviation for the term, forfeit. While the term is more common in other MOBAs, Dota 2 players typically use the term ‘GG’ or Good Game to declare surrendering.

Unfortunately, unlike in pro matches, where matches are hosted in a lobby, calling GG in the all-chat won’t actually end the game. On the contrary, many MOBAs, notably League of Legends, do have an ‘Ff’ option, that lets the team vote on a consensus to tap out.

As for the typical pub matches, calling Ff in Dota 2 isn’t possible.

Should you call Ff in Dota 2?

While forfeiting in Dota 2 or calling GG does not do anything, it does have a psychological effect on both your teammates and opponents alike.

In a scenario where the match is not even close to ending yet, calling an early GG will likely infuriate your teammates. It is a toxic move as it ruins your team morale before the game is even over. As for your opponents, they likely would take you as a joke of a player for giving us this early.

On the bright side, calling an early GG could be a mind game to convince your opponents that you have given up. You can give the perception of a guaranteed loss so that your opponent would make careless mistakes, which could potentially be just enough to turn the tides of your Dota 2 match in your favor.

Why does Dota 2 not have an ‘FF’ feature?

You would think that the Dota 2 developers could have easily added such a feature, given that it’s a common practice in other MOBAs.

However, perhaps it was a wise decision to not actually implement Ff in Dota 2. One comparison that many MOBA players often debate about between Dota 2 vs LoL is that having Ff in LoL makes LoL players less motivated to give their best effort in the game. Whereas, Dota 2 players, even at the brim of losing the game, often would still fight till the destruction of their respective Ancients.

As such, the Dota 2 scene often has more comeback stories that reward players who never gave up on their match despite the overwhelming odds.

Nevertheless, if you truly believe that your Dota 2 match is unwinnable, there’s a passive method of Ff in Dota 2. All you have to do is stay AFK in your base, which is short for ‘away from keyboard’. By not showing any resistance against your opponents, you directly ensure a smoother and shorter end to your match.

However, just make sure that you do not stay inactive for more than five minutes. Otherwise, you will be flagged for abandoning the game, which will deduct even more MMR on top of your lost match.
