How to change CS2 bot difficulty | Nerf those bots!

In Counter-Strike 2, fighting against bots can be a great way to practice your aim without going up against real players. There’s one problem, though. CS2 bots don’t have just one difficulty, meaning some players will find them too easy, while others might struggle on the same level. We’ve got you covered. We’re going to show you exactly how to change CS2 bot difficulty, so you can use them to play CS2.

If you want to know how to change bot difficulty in CS2, the easiest way to do this is via a command. To use this CS2 bot difficulty command, follow these steps:

• Ensure that the console is enabled in your settings by making sure that “Enable Developer Console” is set to “Yes.”
• Load into a game of practice Deathmatch with bots.
• Open the console using the tilde key (~).
• Enter the commands “bot_difficulty 0-5,” and “custom_bot_difficulty 0-5.” Make sure these numbers are the exact same for both commands.
• Exit out of the Deathmatch game, and enter the game you want to play. You only need to do this once per play session.

It’s important that you enter both of those commands, as this is the only way we’ve been able to get the CS2 bot difficulty command to actually work as intended. Just one won’t work!

What are the CS2 bot difficulty options?

As you may have noticed above, the CS2 bot difficulty commands above require a number between 0-5 to work. Knowing how they work is crucial when learning how to change bot difficulty in CS2. These numbers determine the CS2 bot difficulty, with each one meaning the following:

• bot_difficulty 0: Bots won’t fight you fight you at all.
• bot_difficulty 1: Bots are easy to beat.
• bot_difficulty 2: Bots are slightly more difficult to beat.
• bot_difficulty 3: Bots are quite tough to beat.
• bot_difficulty 4: Bots are difficult to beat
• bot_difficulty 5: Bots are difficult to beat, and can take down most players who aren’t careful fast.

Make sure you’re choosing the right bot for your skill level. For the average player, this will sit around bot_difficulty 3 or 4. The bots on the lowest difficulty level are not the brightest, as seen here:

How to add bots in CS2

To use the various CS2 bot difficulty commands, you have to actually have bots in your game! Most practice game modes in CS2 have bots in them as default, but did you know you actually adjust the number through even more commands? Use these commands to add more or less bots to your game in CS2:

• bot_add: Adds a bot to one team at random.
• bot_add_ct: Adds a bot to the CTs.
• bot_add_t: Adds a bot to the Ts.
• bot_kick: Kicks all bots from the lobby.
• bot_place: Places a bot at your location (requires “sv_cheats true” to be active, and needs at least one bot already in the lobby).

With all this knowledge, you should be equipped to go ahead and adjust the CS2 bot difficulty commands to your heart’s content!
