How much guaranteed money the Seahawks gave their 2024 UDFAs

With the 2024 draft class almost entirely signed, here’s a quick look at how much guaranteed money the Seahawks gave to the undrafted free agents they signed after the draft.

Free agency and the draft are in the rear view mirror in the first offseason of the Mike Macdonald tenure as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, and just three weeks of the offseason program remain between now and the true doldrums of summer. That, of course, means that while training camp is little more than two months away, but also that the ink has dried and the details shared on the contracts signed by the undrafted free agents the Hawks inked after the draft.

Without wasting any time, here is a look at how much guaranteed money was given to each of the undrafted free agents the Seahawks have signed:

  • QB Chevan Cordeiro: $17,500 guaranteed salary, $0 signing bonus (Waived 5/8)
  • RB George Holani: $100,000 guaranteed salary, $15,000 signing bonus
  • RB TaMerik Williams: $0 guaranteed salary, $5,500 signing bonus
  • RB Kobe Lewis: $0 guaranteed salary, $5,000 signing bonus
  • WR Hayden Hatten: $0 guaranteed salary, $15,000 signing bonus
  • WR Dee Williams: $100,000 guaranteed salary, $25,000 signing bonus
  • TE Jack Westover: $50,000 guaranteed salary, $25,000 signing bonus
  • T Garret Greenfield: $175,000 guaranteed salary, $20,000 signing bonus
  • C Mike Novitsky: $0 guaranteed salary, $2,500 signing bonus
  • DL Rason Williams: $0 guaranteed salary, $3,000 signing bonus
  • NT Buddha Jones: $0 guaranteed salary, $0 signing bonus
  • DT DeVere Levelston: $0 guaranteed salary, $3,000 signing bonus

For those fans concerned about the $721,500 of salary guarantees given out buy the Seattle front office, even though the Seahawks are tight against the cap, these guarantees are not a reason to worry. In the majority of cases these base salary guarantees will likely be eclispsed by either the 53-man roster salary or practice squad salary of these players, and the player only collects on these guarantees if they earn less than the amount guaranteed in their contract.

For example, Nelson Ceaser has $100,000 of base salary guarantees, while during the 2024 season the salary for members of NFL practice squads is set at $12,500 per week, or $225,000 for the entire season. That means that if Ceaser is on the practice squad of the Seahawks or any other team for eight weeks or more during the 2024 season, he will earn $100,000 or more in salary, and the Seahawks would have no obligation to pay him any additional money. If, however, he were only on a practice squad for five weeks, earning $62,500, and spent the other 13 weeks of the season at home, the Seahawks would be responsible for the difference of $37,500 between the $100,000 guarantees and his actual earnings.

As such, with most of the players who received significant base salary guarantees from the team likely to spend the season on either a 53-man roster or a practice squad, whether with the Seahawks or with another team, the likelihood is that most of these players will earn more than their guarantees. Of course, with the Hawks having already released Cordeiro, who has yet to catch on with another team, the team could potentially be responsible for the $17,500 salary guarantee they gave to him. However, it’s a long season and even just a couple of weeks on a practice squad late in the year would remove that obligation from the books.
