Holger Rune seemingly defends Emma Raducanu after blunt Madrid presser

Holger Rune seemingly defended Emma Raducanu after the Briton came under fire over her Madrid press conference move.

Speaking to British media in Madrid, Raducanu received 16 questions.

Raducanu responded with very short answers as the 20-year-old said a total of 58 words in her response to those 16 questions.

After just less than three minutes, a WTA official stepped in and said the best thing was to end the presser.

“The only way to be sure not to be misunderstood is to give nothing,” Rune tweeted.

Rune, Chris Evert defend Raducanu

Evert, a former 18-time Grand Slam champion, insisted what Raducanu did was something every player experiences at least once.

“In her defense, every one of us has had a day, or a press conference like this – don’t make it such a big deal,” Evert tweeted.

Eugenie Bouchard, the 2014 Wimbledon runner-up, said she can absolutely relate to what Raducanu is currently going through.

After a very strong 2014 Wimbledon run, Bouchard became one of the most criticized WTA players.

Now, Raducanu is going through what Bouchard was experiencing for several years.

“I see lots of similarities. I feel for her in the sense. She has a great life, she’s set for life and she’s had great achievements. But I can understand a little bit, possibly the pressure, the scrutiny. She tweeted something, posted something about not doing tennis one day and people were like, `Why don’t you go practice.’ I was like, `Oh, my God, I went through that six, eight years ago.’ Haters will hate, you know what I mean?” Bouchard told the WTA website.

Meanwhile, Raducanu didn’t even compete in Madrid.

On Wednesday, Raducanu was scheduled to meet Viktoriya Tomova in the Madrid first round.

But due to an injury to her right hand, Raducanu pulled out of the tournament.

Raducanu’s next scheduled tournament is Rome.
