Holger Rune released interesting words on the eve of the Indian Wells 2nd round match that he was supposed to play in Indian Wells against Milos Raonic. The Canadian tennis player withdrew shortly before the match: this allowed the young Dane to automatically qualify for the 3rd round, where he will face Lorenzo Musetti.
And I believe that the BNP Paribas Open is a good opportunity for Rune to leave behind a period of crisis in which he changed many coaches in just a few weeks, firing Severin Luthi, seeing his mother and Boris Becker step aside and returning to train with Patrick Mouratoglou.
“It’s fantastic to be here, it’s the first ATP tournament I’ve participated in for the fourth time, it’s a special feeling to be here again. In the past they offered me a wild card and I was happy to participate, being here, in this magnificent place, is fantastic and trying to play the best tennis possible. I think the start of the season went well, in the next tournaments I want to do better than in this pair of semi-finals.
We’ve only played for two months so far but we still have a lot to give this year, I’m playing better and better. I had a great week in Acapulco, that’s something to build on. I feel good on the pitch, it’s really fantastic.
My goals are to improve every day and aim to be the best, obviously I hope to win but there are the best tennis players in the world and this year a legend like Novak will also participate. My goal is to play my best, I’m just trying to evolve every day.
I am far from complete with my physical transformation. Acapulco? The things I did there were in the right direction, I could have won that semi-final but that’s sport. Sometimes it ends up helping you and sometimes it doesn’t, you just have to work and continue on this path. We need to be patient and have faith in the growth process we are going through,” he explained.

The last negative months of Rune
In recent months, as mentioned, the young Danish talent has had big problems: from injuries to constant coaching changes and the talented Nordic has lost a bit of ground compared to the other two stars of his generation, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Holger has won an ATP Masters 1000 in his career, but so far he has never impressed in the Slams and now he wants to work to improve. In Acapulco we saw some signs of recovery even if Holger then succumbed in the semi-final, defeated by Casper Ruud.
