GRAND PRIX OF SARDINIA: JORGE PRADO & KAY De WOLF KEEP RIGHT ON KEEPIN’ ON

on

450 World Champion Jorge Prado won this third straight 450 Grand Prix in the sand of Sardinia. Jorge has won five of the six moto held this season. Tim Gajser did his best to put pressure on Prado in moto one, but once Gajser got close, Prado found another gear and pulled away for the win. In the second moto it was Jeffrey Herlings’ turn to try to run Prado down. Herlings stuck with Jorge for most of the second moto, but lost the front end in a tight downhill corner and ended up dropping back behind Gajser. The end result was Prado 1-1, Gajser 2-2 and Herlings’ 3-3.

Jorge Prado leads the 2024 FIM 450 World Championship by 17 points over Tim Gajser, 49 points over Jeffrey Herlings and 51 points over Romain Febvre, but there are 17 rounds left in the Championship.

250 GP CLASS

Dutch rider Kay de Wolf and Belgian Lucas Coenen split 1-2 and 2-1 scores, with the tiebreaker going to De Wolf’s better second moto—de Wolf has won the first three 250 GPs in a row. Triumph had great day with South African Camden McLellan going 3-5 for third overall, with fellow Triumph teammate Mikkel Haarup finishing 7th. German Simon Laengenfelder, who finished third in the first two GPs of the year, suffered in the Sardinian heat and dropped from 4th of 7th in the first moto, only to come back in moto two to finish 3rd (after Andrea Adamo was disqualified for his pit lane violation). That DQ moved McLellan to fifth in the second moto which secured the Triumph rider the final podium spot. Additionally, Adamo’s DQ allowed Laengenfelder to get third in the second moto and fourth for the day.

As you would expect, Kay de Wolf leads the 250 World Championship by 29 points over Simon Laengenfelder, 46 points in front of Lucas Coenen and 64 points ahead of Thibault Benistant.
