Patriots’ Matt Patricia still determining future, Joe Judge to return in different role: Sources – The Athletic

Former Giants coach Joe Judge will be back on the New England Patriots’ coaching staff next season, but he will not be the team’s quarterback coach. There is word that Judge not only clashed with Jones, but was not well-liked in the Patriot locker room.

As Patricia came under outside fire as the face of the offense, Judge drew increasing criticism from within. Belichick would blast him in practice, and it wasn’t uncommon for Judge and Jones to trade profanity-laced outbursts. Jones’ trust in his position coach was effectively non-existent.

“Mac didn’t like him,” one source said. “At all.”

“[Judge] would speak extra loudly in meetings, trying to project like he was the guy,” another source said. “And I think that kind of rubbed people the wrong way.”

“A lot of people were frustrated with [Judge],” a third added.

Why Daniel Jones has ‘leverage’ as experts predict Giants contract | NY Post

“Kirk [Cousins] signed a one-year extension for $35 million, and I would say, ‘I just beat this guy. I need to be above that,’ ” said Joel Corry, a contracts expert for CBSsports.com and a former agent. “The playoffs for Jones were one step forward, one step back. He has to look at the rest of the market and how other teams are going to look at him. You could be overplaying your hand to say, ‘I’ll take my chances in free agency if you don’t franchise tag me.’ ”

“Regardless of other teams’ interest levels, Jones still has all the leverage,” the second executive said, “because what are their other [quarterback] options?”

Jason Kelce disapproved of teammate’s trash talk vs. Giants

Kelce had to block Dexter Lawrence, and wasn’t thrilled with teammate Brandon Graham for getting Lawrence riled up before the game.

“I wasn’t happy about that,” Kelce told reporters. “I told him right after that, ‘Hey man, you talk s–t to the (offensive) tackle. I’ll handle this guy. I don’t need him more revved up than he already is.”
