Leaving Real Madrid at the end of his contract in July 2022, Gareth Bale had rebounded at Los Angeles FC, in particular to maintain his physical condition for the 2022 World Cup. A tournament which turned into a nightmare for the famous number 11 and Wales, selection of which he remains the top scorer in history (40 goals). However, last November, the former Merengue assured that this huge disappointment was not going to affect the rest of his career.

“I will continue as long as I can and as long as I am wanted. It’s a tough time now, obviously, but we’re going back. We have a qualifying campaign from March”, he let go on November 30th. But less than two months later, the Welshman surprised everyone by announcing that he was ending his career. A career during which he notably won five Champions Leagues, four Club World Cups, three Spanish championships, three European Supercups and more recently MLS with Los Angeles FC, which will therefore be his last club.

A career rich in trophies

“After careful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from club and international football. I feel incredibly lucky to have achieved my dream of playing the sport I love. This sport has given me some of the best times of my life. I’ve had some very strong moments for 17 seasons, which it will be impossible for me to reproduce, whatever the next chapter awaits me. From my very first contact at Southampton to my last with LAFC, and everything in between, has shaped a club career of which I am immensely proud and grateful. Playing for my country and captaining it 111 times has truly been a dream come true. Showing my gratitude to everyone who played a part in this journey seems impossible to me. I am indebted to many people who have helped change my life and shape my career in ways I never could have dreamed of when I started at 9 years old”he wrote, before concluding.

“To my former clubs, Southampton, Tottenham, Real Madrid and finally LAFC. To all of my former managers and coaches, backroom staff, teammates, dedicated fans, agents, friends and family, the impact you have had is immeasurable. My parents and my sister, without your dedication in those early days, without such a strong foundation, I would not be writing this statement right now, so thank you for setting me on this path and for your unwavering support. . My wife and children, your love and support carried me through. You are by my side through highs and lows, keeping me grounded along the way. You inspire me to be better, and to make you proud. So, I am eagerly moving towards the next stage of my life. A time of change and transition, an opportunity for a new adventure…” Go to the golf greens?
