Fourth round cancelled, Wyndham Clark wins

The severe weather conditions affecting some areas of California had a significant impact on the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Initially, the organizers had to postpone the last round to Monday, but ultimately decided to cancel it altogether. As a result, the PGA Tour tournament, which had a prize pool of $20 million, was awarded to Wyndham Clark, based on the scores achieved at the end of the first three days. Clark earned a rich $3 million prize, winning the tournament with an overall score of -17 (199 shots).

Wyndham Clark preceded the Swede Ludvig Aberg by one length and the Frenchman Matthieu Pavon by two. In fourth position with a score of -14 were the Belgian Thomas Detry and the American Wyndham Clark. In sixth place with -13 were the Australian Jason Day and the Americans Tom Hoge, Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler. The top ten was completed with a score of -12 by American golfer Sam Burns. The leaderboard was extremely even after the first 54 holes, with over 20 participants within just 9 shots.

For Wyndham Clark, a thirty-year-old originally from Denver, Colorado (United States), this victory in California represents his third success as a professional. He previously won the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship and the 2023 US Open. Before achieving these successes last season, Clark had come close to winning the 2020 Bermuda Championship, but lost in the playoff holes to compatriot Brian Gay.

Despite organizers’ attempts to move the final round to Monday, adverse weather conditions, including rain and strong winds, made it impossible to continue the tournament. Now, next weekend, the WM Phoneix Open will be held, with a prize pool of $3.6 million, where players will have another opportunity to compete.

Pebble Beach is located in Monterey County on the Monterey Peninsula. It is bordered by Carmel-by-the-Sea to the south, Pacific Grove to the north, the city of Monterey to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Big Sur is about 40 miles south on scenic State Route 1. Santa Cruz and San Francisco are about 45 and 120 miles north, respectively.

Technically Pebble Beach isn’t a city at all, but rather a conglomerate owned by the Pebble Beach Company. Residents pay special taxes for road maintenance as well as residential property taxes to Monterey County. The community’s post office is called Pebble Beach, but the United States Census Bureau places the area under the jurisdiction of Del Monte Forest.
