Matt “Zack Ryder” Cardona was released back in April when the WWE decided to cut several wrestlers for budget cuts, but that didn’t stop the WWE from asking to use his pool.
Zack Ryder spoke to the Major Wrestling Figure podcast about how WWE approached his wife, Chelsea Green, about using their pool for a segment involving Otis and Mandy Rose. Ryder was more than a little offended that the company who fired him still wanted to use his property:
“I’m sitting by the pool with Chelsea and she has a weird look on her face, checking her phone, and I’m like, ‘Babe, what’s up?’ She’s like, ‘Someone from WWE asked me if Otis and Mandy Rose and a camera crew can come here to film a pool scene for SmackDown.’ I was shaking in anger. You fired me, but you wanna use my pool?”
Curt Hawkins added that Florida is currently going through a pool apocalypse and Ryder is the only one lucky enough to have survived.
Curt Hawkins added, “There are no pools in Florida, everyone knows that. There’s only one and you have it.”
Ryder explained that he was considering writing a tweet against the company, but decided not to. Hawkins sees it as more of a compliment than insult.
“How many people in Florida have pools? How many people live in Florida, are associated with WWE, under contract and have pools? You should have been flattered, not pissed,” Hawkins said.
He was not flattered. He was, in fact, pissed.
I was pissed. They didn’t ask me, they asked her! I guess they were taping Raw and SmackDown at the Performance Center. My good friends [John] Morrison and Miz said they were coming over and texted me and said, ‘Can I bring Otis?’ I thought it was a rib because they knew the story. That pissed me off too. But Otis showed up and it wasn’t a rib. I don’t know Otis, though I wrestled him, this guy is pure entertainment. I fell in love with this man.”
The segment was filmed at another pool.
