Five golf courses in India to add to your must-play list

on

India is an underrated golf destination, given its size and relative lack of courses compared to countries of a similar size.

However, there are some stunning courses to play in and around the major centres.

Karnataka Golf Association

Karnataka combines being distinctly Indian in nature with world-class groundskeeping to deliver a unique and championship-quality course.

It has been considered the top course in the country for some time, stemming back to the extensive remodelling of the layout in 1973.

The course facilities include top-class coaching options for those who are eager to work on their game.

Karnataka is also not far from the less prestigious Bangalore Golf Club if you’re eager to get variety into your golf trip to Bengaluru.

Royal Calcutta Golf Club

Established in 1829, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club holds its place in gold history as the oldest gold club outside of Great Britain.

The club’s course hasn’t always been where it is today, starting out life in an area that would become the city of Kolkata’s main airport.

The championship course of Royal Calcutta consists of eighteen holes, each of which is a solid par of modern length and difficulty. The course is situated in a flat parkland setting, surrounded by beautiful trees, countless lakes or ponds, drainage systems, and gutters.

It is reasonable to say that the course is among the best in the whole subcontinent.

Kensville Golf & Country Club

The Kensville Golf & Country Club is a modern course that has proven fit to host European Challenge Tour events and other pro tournaments.

Kensville led the way for a golfing revolution in Gujarat, which was largely devoid of courses at the turn of the century.

The Jeev Milkha Singh trademark course can be reached from Ahmedabad via a relatively stress-free 40-minute drive and features a lengthy, challenging layout with plenty of doglegs and water, and the wind often adds elements of difficulty.

For inexperienced golfers, there is an extensive driving range and a golf academy, and the clubhouse has 55 guestrooms and suites.

Delhi Golf Club

Coming into being as a nine-hole course as long ago as 1951, the Delhi Golf Club has become one of the most sought-after memberships by the massive cities elite and avid golfers.

The course has grown to include 27 holes throughout the years, and it is currently, without a doubt, among the best golf clubs in all of India.

The DGC, also one of the busiest courses in the nation, is consistently in superb condition year-round.

The compact nine-hole Peacock course features a number of intriguing par-3 holes that are perfect for those trying to improve their iron play and short game.

Oxford Golf & Country Club

The Sahyadri range encircles the Oxford Golf and Country Club (designed by Phil Ryan of Pacific Coast Design, Australia) west of Pune, which is spread on 136 acres among gorgeous hills.

This championship facility consistently serves as a picture-perfect backdrop to golfing action.

The massive white sand bunkers lend a unique touch to the layout, and the golf course’s lush green areas stand out against the bleak surroundings.

To give you an idea of the elevation variations that occur on the golf course, the fourth tee is the highest point at 84 metres above the 14th, which forms the floor of the unique course.
