FaZe Beats OpTic To Claim First CDL Trophy in 400 Days

on

Call of Duty’s Major II tournament has wrapped up in Miami following a weekend of intense gameplay. It was an electrifying event that saw the top four power teams in the League showcased time and again as they dominated both brackets. In a dominating streak, Atlanta FaZe decided to live in the winner’s bracket, laying waste to the LA Thieves, the Subliners, and OpTic Texas twice to secure the trophy and the $150,000 grand prize.

It was a monumental event from start to finish, with every match featuring these top-tier teams being too close to call. If there was a more clippable weekend in Call of Duty history, I’m not aware of it. This was a hugely deserved win for Atlanta FaZe – the team went on an absolute burner against some of the best Call of Duty teams in the business this weekend.

Miami Major Movement

Sadly, the lower portion of the Miami Major has nothing exceptional to call out – except for the Carolina Royal Ravens’ performance. The Miami Heretics and Seattle Surge were eliminated from the tournament immediately – leaving the Miami Heretics with a 0 – 12 record on LAN. For the Royal Ravens, it was a tippable weekend, with the team finishing in sixth place after being forced out by the New York Subliners in a series that could have gone either way.

It was a matter of single points and it was a testament to the underdog capabilities of the Royal Ravens.

Up top, the likes of Ultra, FaZe, OpTic, and NYSL dominated the event. Despite there only being one winner in Atlanta FaZe, special commendations have to be handed to the Subliners and OpTic. This weekend saw new in-game records set, and with plenty of these fixtures going down to the wire, it made for an intense showing throughout. OpTic Texas looked as sharp as it ever will – it’s only a matter of time before the team lifts a trophy at a Major.

The Aftermath

Following Major II, Atlanta FaZe has skyrocketed to the top of the CDL standings. Toronto Ultra now sits in second place, followed by OpTic Texas and the New York Subliners. The bottom of the table has had a shake-up, and Boston Breach is now dead last with just 50 CDL points for the entire season.

In typical Call of Duty fashion, a wave of toxicity sprung up on social media following the closure of the event. There were shots fired by both Scrap’s and Drazah’s girlfriends on Twitter, launching insults and jibes across the wire. This caused the pro players themselves to get involved and add further fuel to the fire, with many in the community being wholeheartedly disappointed that it’s always the same people causing the drama in social circles.

Regardless of the beef that has kicked off following Major II, all eyes are on Toronto Ultra’s Major III tournament.
