Enzo Couacaud revealed he tore two ankle ligaments during his Australian Open match against Novak Djokovic.
Couacaud, 27, won three qualifying matches at Melbourne Park to debut in the Australian Open main draw.
After winning three qualifying matches and Hugo Dellien in the main draw first round, Couacaud took on Djokovic on Rod Laver Arena in the second round.
In his first meeting against Djokovic, Couacaud managed to win a set before Djokovic sealed a 6-1 6-7 (5) 6-2 6-0 win.
“My @australianopen ended with amazing memories but also with 2 torn ligaments in my right ankle. We will bounce back. Greater things to come,” Couacaud revealed on Instagram.

Djokovic praised Couacaud
After sealing a four-set win over Coaucaud, Djokovic said the Frenchman “played some great tennis.”
“There was a lot happening in the match. He played some great tennis, especially in the second set. We both had some medical timeouts and struggled a little bit. But I managed to respond well in the third and fourth. I love playing night sessions. Let’s keep it going,” Djokovic said after beating Couacaud.
Meanwhile, Djokovic has been through to the Australian Open final and Coaucaud is so far the only player who has managed to win a set against the Serb at this year’s Australian Open.
On Friday, Djokovic saw off Tommy Paul in three sets to reach the Australian Open final.
In the Australian Open final, Djokovic will be taking on Stefanos Tsitsipas.
“Of course it [adds extra significance]. Winning Grand Slams and being the No. 1 in the world are probably the two biggest peaks that you can climb as a professional tennis player. Let’s see what happens,” Djokovic said.
When it comes to Couacaud, it was definitely a positive Australian Open run for him – he made his Australian Open main draw debut and also got a chance to play against Djokovic on one of the biggest courts in the world.
