Emma Raducanu issues statement on her clutch BJK Cup wins, display

Emma Raducanu was absolutely thrilled and delighter after her big Billie Jean King Cup weekend as the 21-year-old highlighted it is “a testament” to all of the efforts she has been putting up over the last several months. 

On Saturday, Raducanu won a marathon and thriller against Diane Parry 4-6 6-1 7-6 (1) in the fourth match of the Great Britain and France BJK Cup qualifiers tie. By outlasting Parry in a match that was just minutes short of hitting the three-hour mark, Raducanu sealed a 3-1 win for Great Britain and a ticket to the BJK Cup Finals later this year. 

A day earlier, Raducanu kept Great Britain’s hopes alive after she beat 2022 WTA Finals champion Caroline Garcia 3-6 6-3 6-2 to level the tie to one win apiece. 

While Katie Boulter also clinched one win on Saturday, it was Raducanu who did the biggest job for Great Britain.

“To be able to play two matches like that back to back, it’s a testament to what I’ve been doing. I’m just glad it was able to show,” Raducanu said.

Raducanu’s comeback gaining traction

For Raducanu, a weekend like this was absolutely big and something that would provide her with a massive boost for confidence. 

Also, this was another great indication that Raducanu is progressing in the right direction after her surgery. 

Now, there is not much time to rest for Raducanu as she is set to start her clay season at this week’s WTA 500 event in Stuttgart. For the 21-year-old Briton, this will be the third time that she is starting her clay season in Stuttgart.

Last year, Raducanu played her last tournament of the season in Stuttgart and lost 2-6 1-6 to Jelena Ostapenko before deciding to undergo three surgeries.

But now, Raducanu enters Stuttgart much healthier and overall in a much better place than it was the case last year.
