This time, the Chicago Bears rookie QB won’t have to “earn” his starting spot.

“Mike Glennon is our starting quarterback and we’re fired up about that.” – Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Pace, 2017

“Andy Dalton is QB1. Justin Fields will sit.” – Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy, 2021

New regime, new attitude.

We’ve heard all the ridiculous stances before. Rookie QBs need to sit. Rookie QBs need to earn their starting role with the team. The list goes on and on.

The last two times the Chicago Bears spent a first-round pick on a quarterback, we heard those tired quotes. The Bears sat Mitch Trubisky behind Mike Glennon. Their plan failed and Trubisky was forced to play anyway.

The Bears sat Justin Fields behind Andy Dalton and an early injury still pushed Fields into the starting role, even though Nick Foles was still on the roster.

The Bears have always played games with their rookie QBs but not this time.

The Chicago Bears are committed to Caleb Williams as their quarterback. He will be the starting quarterback in the first practice of OTAs and remain in that position as long as he’s healthy.

While this isn’t surprising when you look at the roster, it’s still nice to see a regime that isn’t going to play games and will march forward with their rookie. Caleb Williams will start immediately. He will make mistakes. He will grow from them. As fans, we will experience plenty of highs and lows this season as he grows into an NFL quarterback.

Regardless of how this season plays out, the first of the Chicago Bears’ spring practices are underway, and Caleb Williams is officially QB1.
