The Detroit Lions have signed DT Kyle Peko, who will reunite with DL coach Terrell Williams.

The Detroit Lions announced on Tuesday that they have signed veteran defensive tackle Kyle Peko. They also confirmed the previously reported signing of safety C.J. Moore to a one-year deal.

Peko, who will turn 31 before the season begins, has bounced around five different teams since entering the NFL. Most recently, he started 10 games for the Tennessee Titans last year, after a previous one-year stint with the Titans in 2021. That’s an important connection because, in Tennessee, he was under defensive line coach Terrell Williams, who was hired by the Lions to the same position this offseason.

At 6-foot-1, 305 pounds, Peko will likely project to be more of a 3 or 5-tech in Detroit’s defense. That said, his pass rushing capabilities are somewhat limited. He only has 2.0 career sacks in 42 career games (12 starts). And last year, Peko produced just seven total pressure (per PFF) in 153 total pass rushing snaps.

That said, the Lions cupboard is a little bare when it comes to pure defensive tackles. Alim McNeill, Levi Onwuzurike, Brodric Martin, and Chris Smith are the only players currently healthy. DJ Reader will be a big fixture once he’s completely healed from his torn quad. But, for now, Peko adds a necessary body as Organized Team Activities are due to start in just two weeks for the Detroit Lions.

In total, Peko has played in 42 games, produced 56 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, and two passes defended and a forced fumble.
