The Miami-Dade Police Department has revealed major details regarding the sudden death of Konstantin Koltsov, revealing that the death of Aryna Sabalenka’s boyfriend is being investigated as “an apparent suicide.”

After rumors began to spread that Koltsov suddenly passed away at the age of 42 in Miami, Russian hockey team Salavat Yulaev Ufa was the first to officially confirm the news on Tuesday morning. Koltsov, a former Belarusian hockey player, was linked to Salavat Yulaev Ufa because he worked as an assistant coach there.

Initially, it was believed that the cause of Koltsov’s death was “a detached blood clot,” or at least that’s the news that appeared in Belarusian media.

But now, the statement from the Miami-Dade PD indicates that Koltsov died by jumping off the balcony. Also, the statement said that “no foul play is suspected.”

Before retiring in 2016, Koltsov played pro hockey for 18 years and he twice represented Belarus at the Winter Olympics.

“The Belarusian Hockey Federation expresses its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who knew and worked with Konstantin Evgenievich,” the federation said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Koltsov was in Miami because he was traveling with Sabalenka. Since starting their relationship in 2021, Koltsov frequently traveled with Sabalenka.

When it comes to Sabalenka’s Miami campaign, she hasn’t yet withdrawn from the tournament, at least at the time of writing this. In Miami, Sabalenka is the No. 2 seed and has a first-round bye.
