Cowboys meeting a veteran WR free agent today

The Dallas Cowboys are stirring just a bit in free agency. Even though all of the main waves of free agency are past, the post-compensatory pick formula part of free agency is wide open for business. One veteran wide receiver, Zay Jones, has been making the rounds, recently visiting the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans.

The next stop on his tour? Dallas.

The Cowboys are visiting with Jones today in the first real move we’ve seen this offseason around adding competition at WR3. The Cowboys did draft Ryan Flournoy in the sixth round of the recent draft, but he is considered more of a project with incredible athletic skills. Zay Jones is a veteran with production at the NFL level.

Jones has been in the league since 2017, initially with the Buffalo Bills and most recently with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The most productive year of his career was 2022 when he amassed 823 yards on 82 receptions and five touchdowns.

Many of Jones’ reps came on the outside in Jacksonville, although he does have some flexibility in the slot. Of course, the Cowboys like a player on the outside for WR3 because it allows them to play CeeDee Lamb in the slot some of the time where he is extremely dangerous.

As per usual, money will play a major role here. But Dallas does have a couple of advantages. Jones was born in Dallas, and is the son of former Cowboys linebacker Robert Jones.
