CM Punk updated his return status after night one of the WWE Draft

Despite the fact he’s technically sidelined by the torn triceps he suffered in the Royal Rumble three months ago, CM Punk has remained a pretty regular presence in WWE. He’s done commentary, and showed up on Raw to keep his beefs with Seth Rollins and especially Drew McIntyre alive. He even got physical while serving as an announcer at WrestleMania XL to cost McIntyre the World Heavyweight title Drew had just won from Rollins.

Punk’s also used his gift for gab to send crowds home happy after television shows a few times, and that’s what he did after SmackDown last night (April 26).

The Chicagoan gassed up the Cincinnati crowd by advocating for Reds’ legend Pete Rose to be inducted into the Hall of Fame (the baseball version, which Rose is banned from along with all things MLB after he admitted to betting on the game, not the WWE one, which he was inducted into the celebrity wing of in 2004 after getting his ass kicked at multiple WrestleManias by another Big Red Machine). That set up a dark match where Sheamus beat Chad Gable.

Before he did that though, Punk — who wasn’t wearing a brace on his surgically repaired arm — offered an update on his return from injury:

“I want to give a little update — my tricep[s] is not a hundred percent, yet. But I am on track and I promise, soon, I will be back and competing with all the tough badasses backstage.”
