With just a week to go until the tournament, Cloud9 have announced that they will withdraw from the BetBoom Dacha Belgrade. After losing electroNic to Virtus.Pro and benching both Perfecto and HObbit, they were not able to field a roster in time.

In a statement announced on organizer FISSURE’s X page, an unnamed representative from Cloud9 confirmed that they would not be able to attend:

“We respect our fans and can only participate in events with full dedication and hard work. Unfortunately, we are still in the process of updating the roster.”

The roster shuffle comes after a series of disappointing results for Cloud9. They have yet to place above 5th at an S-Tier event this year. This is despite showing up to IEM Chengdu, PGL Copenhagen Major, IEM Katowice and the BLAST Premier Spring Groups. It’s not exactly surprising that they wanted to make some changes, but it’s disappointing for fans who wanted to see them play.

Perhaps ironically, Cloud9 stood a real chance in the groups at the BetBoom Dacha Belgrade. They’d been placed in Group A with MOUZ, Team Falcons and Virtus.Pro. But could they come out on top of Team Spirit? Maybe not.

Who will replace C9 at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade?

A replacement team has not yet been announced. In a world where visa issues are hardly uncommon in esports, it’s likely that the second or third place team from either the EU or South American qualifiers will step in to fill out the groups.

It’s not clear which region would be prioritized but from Europe. We may see AMKAL ESPORTS or even the BetBoom team themselves step in. From South America, paiN Gaming and Imperial Esports took 2nd and 3rd place in the qualifiers.

Regardless, the BetBoom Dacha Belgrade will go ahead on May 14th. The grand finals are due to take place on May 19th.
