Canada: Field Hockey Canada announces three new board members

Business and sport professionals join Field Hockey Canada Board of Directors

Field Hockey Canada is excited to announce three new board members joining the Field Hockey Canada Board of Directors.  Following an open national process, Field Hockey Canada appointed three strong independent nominations, with Kerry Moynihan, Ronald Prins and Terry Lockhart joining the board as FHC Directors.

Terry Lockhart is a CPA with finance, HR, and governance expertise in the Not-For-Profit sector and has experience working in Canadian national sport governing bodies. Terry is dedicated to promoting sports’ role in fostering community and instilling confidence, esteem, and ethical values in young athletes. Lockhart said he is looking forward to supporting the sport community of field hockey, a sport he has admired from a distance and is excited to work with first-hand.

“Field Hockey has always been a sport I’ve enjoyed watching and the chance to contribute to Canada’s national governing body for the sport is very exciting. I look forward to helping strengthen the financial health and sustainability of Field Hockey Canada, as well as supporting the organization’s risk management framework,” Lockhart said.

Ronald Prins is a dedicated field hockey ambassador and has been closely involved in the sport as a player, coach, umpire, and administrator. Growing up in the hockey hotbed of the Netherlands, Ronald’s passion for the sport ignited amidst his family’s active engagement with the local hockey club. After relocating to Canada, he became deeply involved in the community, co-founding SEAtoSKY FHC in 2016 with a team of passionate volunteers. With a sharp entrepreneurial mindset, Ronald brings his blend of hockey knowledge and business acumen to the Field Hockey Canada board.

Kerry Moynihan, a commerce graduate in Sports Administration from Laurentian University, has had a successful 40-year career in senior management roles with national sports federations such as cycling, shooting, gymnastics, canoeing, alpine skiing, WorldSkills and university sports. He also spent 15 years in senior management at Olds College. Kerry was General Manager of the 1995 and 1997 Canada Games and is a marketing and sponsorship expert. He has already started supporting the hosting of the Indoor Pan American Cup in his home-province of Alberta and said he looks forward to contributing to the success and growth of Field Hockey Canada.

“After 40 years in sports management in Canada, now retired, I am looking forward to making a strong contribution to the growth and prosperity of Field Hockey Canada,” Moynihan said.

According to Susan Ahrens, the CEO of Field Hockey Canada, the addition of these sport and business professionals, Field Hockey Canada continues to build its stable of talented and dedicated leaders at board, staff, and committee level.

“A strong board is essential to the governance of our sport and in turn, its future as a safe, inclusive space in which everyone can enjoy a quality sport experience. In these most recent appointments, we further strengthen our sport as a whole. I am delighted to be working alongside Kerry, Terry, Ronald and the rest of our directors in what is a critical time in sport in Canada,” Ahrens said.

With much of the work Field Hockey Canada has been delivering over the past quad focused sharply on best-in-class governance, these appointments further support the long-term stability of the sport and will enable FHC to flourish and perform as we now move into a new quadrennial.
