The now second year quarterback took to the stage to talk to the media after the first day of mini camp.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young took the stand for his press conference since the end of last season.

The first question was asked by…Bryce Young. He welcomed all the reporters back and asked what they do when there are no Panthers things to cover. What a nice kid.

The first few questions predictably centered around his feelings about the new coaching staff. He was walked into a question where he agreed with the need for a consistent voice leading the offense and how important it will be to be on the same page. He spoke highly of new head coach Dave Canales. He was impressed by what his former team did on film and enjoyed hearing the ins and outs of what he saw as he got to know Canales. He wrapped up the press conference talking about his combine interview with Canales when Canales was still with the Bucs. He said that his new head coach asked him about an adjustment Young made during his last season at Alabama, and Young called it “the most attentive question” he got at the combine. It speaks to Canales’ attention to detail and dedication to the nuances of the game.

There were a smattering of questions throughout the rest of the press conference where reporters tried to bait him to taking jabs at the previous regime, but Young evaded all of those questions and focused all of his answers on the current staff and current season.

He was asked about Diontae Johnson and wanted to highlight his competitive nature and how much of a perfectionist he is, even in the early days of workouts and minicamp. That’s a little bit of a departure from the perception that Johnson may have given some of his less-than-stellar moments on tape last season. He also spoke highly of his new center Austin Corbett and praised his engagement with the team last season despite his injury woes.

All in all, it was a pretty run of the mill press conference. Young took the high road and stayed away from any juicy quotes that could be perceived as throwing last year’s coaching staff under the bus. It was very upbeat and positive, and Young seems genuinely excited about the new coaching staff and the direction of the team.
