The battle among PGA Tour golfers intensifies as the weekend’s alternative event, the Corales Puntacana Championship, progresses. The conclusion of the second round reveals Wesley Bryan of the United States maintaining his lead with an impressive score of -15 (129 strokes), following a solid round of -6.

However, Bryan holds only a narrow one-stroke margin over compatriot Justin Lower, who surged closer to the leader with an impressive round of -8. In third place, with a score of -11, is another American, Greyson Sigg, closely followed by Bill Haas, Kevin Tway, Charley Hoffman, and Pierceson Coody, each trailing by just one stroke. The top ten is rounded out with a score of -8, featuring Americans Davis Thompson and Alex Smalley, Venezuelan Nico Echevarria, and Swedish player Henrik Norlander.

Played on the par 72 course at the Corales Golf Club in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Francesco Molinari’s struggles persist. The Italian golfer could only manage a par for the day, falling behind as his competitors capitalized with birdie putts. Molinari’s overall score of -2 means he misses the cut for Friday, marking his fourth missed cut of the season’s initial phase.

As the afternoon unfolds in Italy, attention turns to the third round, where the competition will determine whether the battle for victory remains between Bryan and Lower, or if any of the pursuers can mount a challenge against the American duo before the Sunday finale, which will crown the successor to England’s Matt Wallace in the tournament’s annals.

The Corales Puntacana Championship is a prestigious golf tournament held in the Dominican Republic, originally established as an event on the Web.com Tour. Its inaugural edition took place in 2016 at the esteemed Puntacana Resort and Club, situated on the scenic east coast in the La Altagracia province.

Following two successful years as a Web.com Tour event, the tournament underwent a significant transition, joining the PGA Tour as an alternate event in March 2018. Notably, it became the first PGA Tour event hosted in the Dominican Republic, offering comparable rewards to other alternate events, including 300 FedEx Cup points for the victor, a coveted two-year tour exemption, and 24 Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points. However, unlike some tournaments, it does not grant an invitation to the prestigious Masters Tournament.

In its inaugural year in 2016, the tournament was held in early June, before being rescheduled to early May in 2017. However, due to the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition faced postponement until September, becoming part of the 2020–2021 PGA Tour season. Notably, it was elevated to full FedEx Cup point event status, with the winner receiving a highly sought-after invitation to the 2021 Masters Tournament, adding to the event’s prestige and allure.
