British Swimming has released its roster for both this summer’s inaugural LEN U23 Championships as well as the European Junior Championships. The former is set for Dublin, Ireland in August while the latter is coming to Belgrade, Serbia in July.
Leah Schlosshan of the City of Leeds and Eva Okaro of Sevenoaks appear on both rosters, giving the youngsters a busy schedule for the summer.
Schlosshan took gold in the girls’ 200m IM at last year’s European Junior Championships while Okaro raked in 50m free bronze at the 2021 edition of the annual event.
Ed Mildred also highlights the U23 lineup, with the 20-year-old already having added two European Championships relay medals to his resume.
On the U23 roster, British Swimming Head of Performance Development Alan Lynn said, “It is an exciting prospect to have put together a team that will compete at a completely new event – and one that will offer racing against world-class competitors in a big arena environment.
“The 18 athletes on this team have a blend of senior and junior experience, with some preparing for their first time in a GB cap and others heading to the meet off the back of the senior World Championships in Fukuoka. We know that each and every one of them can thrive in this big-meet environment and can also use the opportunity to progress their performances on the international stage, whether that is with the Olympic year of 2024 in mind or future international competitions beyond that.”
As to the Euro Jrs roster, Lynn stated, “The British Swimming Championships allowed our junior swimmers to showcase the best of their abilities ahead of what will be another productive year for those looking to make their way into the senior teams.
“We have selected a strong team with experience from across the junior competitions, who will all be aiming to move their performances on in what will be an unfamiliar arena in Belgrade.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do just one year out from Paris and five years out from LA 2028.”
