Brenda Petea details alleged abuse by Alexander Zverev: Choked me against a wall

on

Brenda Patea claims Alexander Zverev “choked her against a wall” during an argument in 2020 May and also described the German tennis star as someone who is prone to violence and has controlling habits. This week, a court in Berlin ruled that Zverev must pay a €450k fine over allegations that he bodily harmed his ex-girlfriend Patea. Zverev’s lawyers called the ruling “scandalous” and said they would appeal and take the case to court. Patea – who is also the mother of Zverev’s daughter Mayla – started dating the German tennis star in 2019 and their relationship lasted just less than 12 months.

Patea claims Zverev ‘choked’ her during the 2020 argument

In an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung, Patea revealed that she waited three years to file a legal complaint due to “mixture of shame, fear of Zverev’s lawyers, and concern for her child.” Regarding the 2020 May incident, Patea claimed that Zverev “pushed (her) against the wall and choked her during an argument in the hallway.” After the alleged incident, Patea said she had “pain in the throat and neck area, and difficulty swallowing.” At the time, Patea didn’t file any legal complaints but instead shared with her two friends about what happened. Days after the incident, Zverev proposed to Patea. In the interview, Patea accused Zverev of “repeated physical violence against her” and also claimed that Zverev had controlling habits and would get easily annoyed as he was checking her Instagram likes and mobile phone. Also, Patea said that even moving Zverev’s stuffed animal would make the German very irked. Now, Patea admits she regrets that she didn’t go public a couple of years ago. “I remained silent when I could have been loud,” Patea said. Meanwhile, Zverev completely dismissed the court’s ruling against him, saying this week that “anybody that has a semi-standard IQ level knows what this is all about.”
