Deontay Wilder, the undefeated WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World, could end up following in the recent footsteps of a former opponent of his, Tyson Fury, by making the jump from the sweet science in boxing to sports entertainment in WWE.
While making the media rounds to promote his upcoming rematch against dangerous, hard-hitting heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz next Saturday, November 23rd on pay-per-view, “The Bronze Bomber” appeared on “Inside PBC Boxing” on PBC On FOX and spoke about possibly following “The Gypsy King’s” lead by making the transition to WWE.
After a video highlight package aired focusing on top heavyweights — which actually featured WWE Superstar Roman Reigns — Wilder was asked by PBC On FOX analyst and fellow boxing star Shawn Porter about the possibility of making the move to WWE to perform in a pro wrestling match.
“Umm, I mean we thought about that years and years ago for marketing purposes and promotion and stuff like that,” Wilder responded. “I mean, I’m a man that believes you don’t burn no bridges. So if the opportunity came about I could see myself jumping off a ladder or something like … doing a flying elbow, or something like that.
“Saying, ‘Bomb Squad!’ on top of a … I mean, I’ve got the character to be able to perform in that environment.”
Regarding the subject of possibly working with WWE in the future, Wilder concluded, “So, it’ll be something for me. I wouldn’t turn it down.”
Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz II is scheduled to air live on pay-per-view on Saturday, November 23rd from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
