A fan-favorite says goodbye.

Boston Scott is not returning to the Philadelphia Eagles. The veteran free agent running back reportedly signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday evening.

It’s a little sad to see him go. Scott, who recently turned 29, has been with the Eagles since they signed him away from the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad during the 2019 season. He unexpectedly made some nice contributions to their playoff push during that year. He became a nice role player to have in the running back rotation.

Scott also obviously developed a reputation for tormenting the New York Giants, becoming known as the Giant Killer. He’s scored 10 total touchdowns — nine rushing, one receiving — in 10 games against them with 90 carries for 422 rushing yards (4.7 average) and 17 receptions for 222 yards (13.1 average).

By all indications, Scott is a fun personality and a well-liked guy in the locker room. I’m sure his teammates will miss seeing him around the NovaCare Complex.

The Eagles are moving forward with Saquon Barkley, Kenny Gainwell, and the recently drafted Will Shipley as their top three running backs. Barkley will see the vast majority of running back touches with Gainwell and Shipley working in behind him.

In LA, Scott figures to compete for a third running back role behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum. He’ll potentially get a chance to play against his former team when the Eagles visit SoFi Stadium this upcoming season.
