World No. 2 Jannik Sinner is reportedly back on the practice court as the Italian tennis star is at least keen to try to give a shot to playing at the French Open, via Sky Sports Italy.
Sinner, who became a Grand Slam champion at this year’s Australian Open, started his clay season in a positive way as he was a semifinalist at the Monte Carlo Masters and also made the Madrid Masters quarterfinal. But in Madrid, Sinner’s promising run was cut short by a hip injury and the Italian hasn’t played since.
After Sinner withdrew from the Rome Masters, some reports started indicating that the Italian withdrawing from the French Open was a real possibility. Now a week before the start of the second Grand Slam of the season, the 22-year-old Italian is reportedly back on the practice court to test his hip.

What happened with Sinner’s hip?
After playing four matches in Monte Carlo, Sinner also won his opening three matches in Madrid. But during his Madrid round-of-16 win over Karen Khachanov, Sinner was evidently struggling with a hip issue and many grew concerned that the Italian may not be able to continue his campaign.

The following day, those fears became reality after Sinner announced he was withdrawing from the rest of the tournament due to a hip issue that was plaguing him throughout the tournament.
“Very sad to have to withdraw from my next match here in Madrid. My hip has been bothering me this week and has slowly been getting more painful. Taking the advice from the doctors we decided it’s best to not play further and make it worse,” Sinner said when announcing his withdrawal from his Madrid quarterfinal match versus Felix Auger-Aliassime.
After withdrawing from Madrid mid-tournament, Sinner was also forced to miss Rome. When announcing his Rome withdrawal, Sinner didn’t hide his disappointment as it is his home tournament and one of his favorite tournaments.
But Sinner is now at least back to practicing and it remains to be seen if he will be fit enough to play at Roland Garros.
