World No 13 Belinda Bencic admits winning Adelaide 2 is a great boost of confidence ahead of the Australian Open.

Bencic, who was seeded at No 8, crushed fifth-seeded Daria Kasatkina in the Adelaide final 6-0 6-2 to lift her first title of the year.

“I’m happy I could show my work here on the court. I thought I played some great matches from the start of the tournament and also against different kind of opponents so I really could test myself out there in every way and just go confidently into the Australian Open,” Bencic said after winning Adelaide 2, per the WTA website.

How Bencic defeated Kasatkina

Going into the Adelaide final, many expected to see a very tight battle between Bencic and Kasatkina.

But it was everything but a tight battle as Bencic came out absolutely firing.

In the first set, Bencic broke Kasatkina three times and didn’t allow the Russian a single break point.

Not only that Bencic broke Kasatkina three times, but she also didn’t allow the Russian a single game point in the first set.

After absolutely dominating the first set, Bencic also broke Kasatkina in the very first game of the second set.

In the third game of the second set, Kasatkina had her first game points of the match and converted them to cut the deficit to 2-1.

But it didn’t take long for Bencic to claim another break as she broke the Russian again in the fifth game to go 4-1 up in the second set.

In the seventh game, Kasatkina saved a championship point on her serve to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Bencic didn’t realize her first championship point but routinely served out for the title in the eighth game.

Now, Bencic is set to compete at the Australian Open, where she will certainly be among the contenders for the title.

In the Australian Open first round, Bencic will be taking on Viktoriya Tomova.

It is not a secret that Bencic wants to win her first Grand Slam title at Melbourne Park.
