Becky Lynch Named Sports Illustrated’s Top Female Wrestler For Second Year In A Row

on

Sports Illustrated has released their list of the top 10 female wrestlers of 2019, with WWE Raw women’s champion Becky Lynch coming in at number one. Also included were fellow WWE stars Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Shayna Baszler, Sasha Banks, and new NXT women’s champion Rhea Riley. Knockouts champion Taya Valkyrie, Jordynne Grace, and number one contender for the world title Tessa Blanchard represented IMPACT, with the final spots going to indie sensation Mercedes Martinez and AEW’s Kris Statlander.

Despite a submission loss to Asuka earlier in the night, Lynch began 2019 by winning the Royal Rumble match. She made history by headlining WrestleMania 35 along with Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey in MetLife Stadium, where she walked about a double-champion. She would feud with Lacey Evans, Natalya, and a returning Sasha Banks throughout the year, with her Hell in a Cell matchup against Banks being revered as one of the top bouts in 2019. She plans on beginning 2020 by going after Asuka at this year’s Royal Rumble in Houston, and overcoming the obstacle that she couldn’t the year prior.
