Beastcoast Defeats BDS to Win First Rainbow Six Major

on

In Manchester, beastcoast pulled off the unimaginable as the relatively untested squad powered through the BLAST R6 Major to secure the trophy – and the $217,000 grand prize. In an intense showdown, beastcoast faced off against BDS – the favourite – and refused to relent, going the distance and producing a stellar result in the final map of the best-of-three.

It was a result for beastcoast that’s sure to go down in the history books. Just two months ago, this five-man team came together – and now, the squad has secured the organisation’s first-ever Major trophy in Rainbow Six Siege.

From a considerably mixed second phase that saw beastcoast fall against DarkZero and FaZe Clan to a stunning championship bracket, this North American squad had a tumultuous tournament from start to finish. At times, the crowd was firmly behind the underdog side – and at others, the raucous jeers were levelled squarely at the individual players not having such a good round.

Beastcoast’s standout competitor was Shaun ‘Gunnar’ Pottorff, crowned MVP of the BLAST R6 Major and unofficially titled ‘Him’ following his awe-inspiring performance. I caught up with Gunnar ahead of the grand final and he was nothing but grateful and appreciative of his team – and his hyper-energetic coach, Eric ‘Fettuccine’ Tong.

Gunnar’s incredible gunny meant he has beaten the kill record for a Rainbow Six Major.

As a unit, beastcoast picked apart FaZe Clan and Team Liquid, ejecting both Brazilian squads from the running as they made their way into the grand final. It came down to a 2 – 2 scoreline and social predictions had the balance at 50-50, but as the final round kicked off, beastcoast showed dominance. With all the flourish of a stunning finish, beastcoast laid down BDS to rest, silencing one-half of the arena.

For the spectators, this was an unforgettable event – and for beastcoast, this could be the start of a stunning run that takes them through the Esports World Cup and beyond.
