Barbora Krejcikova says she is determined to make a statement and prove that she belongs in the same sentence as Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina.
Swiatek, Sabalenka and Rybakina have been drawing lots of attention lately, with some calling them the WTA’s Big Three version.
Krejcikova, the 2021 French Open champion, defeated Swiatek in the final of a WTA 1000 event in Dubai last month.
On Monday night in Miami, Krejcikova will be taking on Aryna Sabalenka and she will be extra motivated against the reigning Australian Open.
“When I read something on social media, it’s about Iga, Aryna, and Elena — I’m not really there. What else should I do? How should I prove it again? This week, again I’m here and I’m going to prove it again so that I get into this Top 3. I want to be mentioned as well. I want to be recognized as well because I think I deserve it. I’ve had a lot of success on the tour and I just don’t get the credit,” Krejcikova told WTA Insider.
Krejcikova: I don’t want to be forgotten
“It’s a big motivation. I don’t want to be forgotten somewhere in the shade of these three big players. They are playing well and are playing great, but I feel I’m playing well as well. I feel like I deserve the recognition from the media and I’m not getting it. I guess I just have to win more matches and prove to everybody that I’m there as well,” Krejcikova noted.
After a great 2021 season, Krejcikova battled injuries in early 2022 and didn’t manage to replicate her success from 2021.
But now, Krejcikova is healthy again and seems to be rediscovering the tennis that landed her the 2021 French Open champion.
It remains to be seen if Krejcikova can beat Sabalenka in the Miami round-of-16.
