After a mysterious absence from the green lasting 12 years, Anthony Kim is ready to make a comeback. The 38-year-old American, who hasn’t played an official tournament since the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship, has chosen the Arabian Super League. From March 1st to 3rd, in Saudi Arabia, he will be among the most anticipated stars at the LIV Golf Jeddah event. A professional since 2006, Kim boasts three titles on the PGA Tour and two successes respectively at the 2008 Ryder Cup in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, and the 2009 Presidents Cup in San Francisco, California.

The “mystery” surrounding his long absence has never been clarified. He withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship in 2012 after the first round, explaining that his withdrawal, the third in a row, was due to a physical issue. There were talks of a $10-20 million insurance policy in case of an injury ending his career. Nevertheless, Kim never returned to the field. But now, that moment is near, and all eyes will be on the Californian in Jeddah.
Anthony Ha-Jin Kim, born on June 19, 1985, is an American professional golfer known for his three PGA Tour victories, participation in the Ryder Cup, and Presidents Cup. After suffering an injury in 2012, he hasn’t competed in a PGA Tour event. Rumored to have had an insurance policy worth $10-20 million for career-ending injuries, Kim remained absent from professional golf until 2024, when he announced his return to the sport by joining the LIV Golf League at the Jeddah event in Saudi Arabia.
In his amateur career, Kim, a Korean American, attended La Quinta High School in California before studying at the University of Oklahoma. He set a record for the lowest career scoring average in relation to par during his time at Oklahoma and was part of the victorious USA team in the 2005 Walker Cup.
Turning professional in 2006, Kim quickly made his mark on the PGA Tour with a tie for second place in his debut at the 2006 Valero Texas Open. He earned his PGA Tour card for the 2007 season and had a strong start, breaking into the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings. He won his first PGA Tour event at the 2008 Wachovia Championship and followed up with a victory at the AT&T National later that year. Kim was also instrumental in the United States’ victory at the 2008 Ryder Cup.
Throughout his career, Kim faced setbacks due to injuries, including surgery for an Achilles tendon injury in 2012. Despite attempts to return to professional golf, Kim remained sidelined until his decision to join the 2024 LIV Golf League marked his official comeback to the sport.
