Anichess Partners With Team Secret as ‘PvP’ Launch Approaches

on

Anichess, an electrifying Web3 game that’s seeking to ‘modernise the chess experience’, has announced a partnership with Team Secret. In the coming weeks, Anichess is set to launch a player-vs-player platform that’ll entice competitors to take part in a game that features the core values of chess fused with spells and bright, energetic visuals. This free-to-play title has been co-created by Magnus Carlsen, iconic five-time World Chess Champion, and it’s looking to carve out a space for itself in the esports industry.

This newly revealed partnership with Team Secret helps to legitimise that goal to no end. Team Secret is a top-tier esports organisation with plenty of flesh in the game, and this partnership will see Anichess evolve under the esports-focused guidance of Team Secret’s veteran leadership staff.

The Evolution of Chess

Chess is one of the oldest games in the world that’s still played today. I recently took a deep dive into the surge of popularity being experienced by the game, particularly in the esports industry. Since 2022, Chess has become an increasingly exciting game to watch unfold on streaming platforms, and it’s fast becoming a pillar of the esports market. In the last few years, we’ve seen esports organisations sign professional Chess players, effectively introducing this age-old game to new and younger audiences.

One platform in particular that enjoyed rampant growth was Chess.com. In October, the site celebrated a monumental milestone as it secured 150 million members.

Anichess has been created in partnership with Chess.com, but it features a dynamic and modern edge that’s bursting at the seams with innovative elements. There’s a backstory to Anichess; a rich lore that’s woven under the surface of the game. Team Secret seeks to evolve the game further, leaning on an esports-based angle to make the game increasingly competitive and attractive to gamers. In a statement, Brian Chan, the head of Anichess, said:

‘Esports has always been a core pillar of Anichess’ modernization of chess’ legacy. Anichess’s engaging visuals, tools to improve and thrilling spells make it an amazing platform for all competitors, regardless of chess experience. We look forward to those willing to take on the challenge when PvP arrives in-game soon.’

Team Secret’s CEO, John Yao, echoed that sentiment:

‘For how ancient the game of chess is, its esports scene is a fresh, rising star in terms of viewership, player base and tournaments. Anichessis a promising twist on chess, with even more of what makes the original great: compelling tactics, broad recognition and rewards for players willing to think outside the box and surprise opponents. I’m looking forward to guiding Anichess into the realm of esports and integrating the new chess platform into our dedicated community.’

Could we see some of the best esports tournaments eventually dwarfed by the power of Chess? Nobody predicted the staggering and sharp rise of Chess in the first place, so anything is possible!
