During an interview with Sky Sports, on the occasion of the celebration of Black History Month, the 3-time Slam champion Andy Murray shared all his admiration for Serena Williams. The Scottish champion said the 23-time American Grand Slam champion was a source of inspiration to people around the world.
“The response to Serena Williams retiring at the US Open, the atmosphere during her matches was incredible. You listen to all of the players talking about her and so many of the young up-and-coming female players talk about how much she inspired them to pick up a racquet. Serena has been a huge part of all of their careers, that’s how long she dominated for and how long she was on the tour for. It’s obviously sad for tennis that she chose to retire but what an unbelievable career she had, and she did a lot for the sport, but she was a lot bigger than that. She inspired a lot of people across the world,” explained Murray. Andy Murray’s words of respect once again underline the legendary greatness of Serena Williams. The 23-time Slam champion tennis player, perhaps the greatest tennis player of all time, has left an indelible mark in the history of tennis, also positively influencing the opinions that other superstars have of her.
