Andrade El Idolo was recently teased for a return to CMLL. According to Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, Andrade’s decision to go back to CMLL is related to the idea that his AEW contract is going to expire “relatively soon.”

Here is how Meltzer described Andrade’s contract situation:

“He’s going back to CMLL. Not sure exactly what week, but probably relatively soon.

…his [AEW] deal is coming up relatively soon, unless it’s extended or something because of time off for injuries or whatever. But he thinks that his deal is up pretty soon, and so he wanted to go back [to CMLL] in case he ends up going to WWE [after his AEW contract expires]. He’s not made a decision what he’s doing next. He’s not signed a new deal. But if he does go to WWE, he knows he can’t go back to Arena Mexico.”

One caveat here is that Andrade apparently doesn’t know for sure if Tony Khan added any time to the end of his AEW contract after he missed nine months from late 2022 to mid 2023 due to fighting Sammy Guevara backstage a torn pectoral muscle. Meltzer specifically noted that Andrade “believes” his AEW deal is ending “relatively soon,” but “you don’t know how much time is added [on] due to injuries…usually they don’t know.”

Well, that’s pretty bizarre. Surely there must be someone who Andrade can talk to in AEW who knows when his contract actually ends.

Anyway, Andrade has dropped plenty of hints about his frustration with AEW over the last couple years, Unlike two years ago, WWE is now the hot product while AEW feels like it is treading water at best. Andrade’s wife (Charlotte Flair) also works for WWE. Then there’s the fact that Vince McMahon is not currently involved with WWE creative, while Triple H has amassed a lot of power on that front.

Add it all up, and it’s not hard to see why a lot of people speculate Andrade is counting down the days until his AEW deal expires so he can then go back to WWE.

How do you think this situation will shake out for Andrade? Let us know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
