Alexander Zverev announced that he has decided to part ways with coach Sergi Bruguera.
Zverev, 26, and former two-time French Open champion Bruguera started working last May.
Zverev and Bruguera started their partnership well as the German made the 2022 French Open semifinal before suffering a devastating injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the 2022 season.
Since returning to action at the start of the 2023 season, Zverev has been looking far from his old form.
Zverev highlighted he still thinks highly of Bruguera and listed the indifferences in opinion as the reason for the split.

“My father, Sergi, and myself, we don’t have the same opinion of how I should approach my tennis, how I should play tennis after my injury. I had another opinion, we tried. But he is a superb person. I don’t have a single bad word to say about him. He helped me extremely [well for] one-and-a-half years ago until Paris last year, in times where my father was not there. I wish him nothing but the best for the future. For me, I want to go back on my path and I want to be in this familiar environment again. The different opinions were perhaps a bit bigger than we thought after the injury. Before it was crystal clear how I should play tennis. I had confidence and courage on the court and for me it is time to find that back and there are different ways to achieve that. I didn’t see this way for me now anymore,” Zverev said, via Tennis-Infinity.
Zverev struggling after a long injury break was expected but it has been six months now since the German returned.
Recently, Zverev said after a loss in Rome that he was “playing my worst tennis since 2015 or 2016.”
It remains to be seen if Zverev can rediscover his old tennis in the remainder of 2023.
