AJ Styles has lofty goals for his heel run

As he starts to wind down his Hall of Fame career, AJ Styles finds himself once again playing a bad guy in WWE these days. The 46 year old isn’t viewing this as a one-off, or with an ironic wink. The Phenomenal One told SI.com’s Justin Barrasso he has big plans for what could be his last run as a heel.

Like a match against The Rock — but not The Final Boss:

“Of course, I’m interested–but only if that means The Rock is turning babyface,” said Styles. “I’m not interested in being a mediocre bad guy. I want to bring this to a whole new level.”

What’s that “whole new level”, you ask?

“As bad, ugly, and mean as a heel is supposed to be, I’m going to be that guy,” said Styles. “When I step into an arena, I want more boos than Dominik Mysterio. That’s what I’m after. That’s my job, and I want to do it better than anybody.”

More boos than a guy who got booed* at his own wedding? That’s a lofty goal. But if Styles’ history has taught us anything, it’s not to doubt him.

Let us know how much heat you think AJ can get on himself, and if you’re interested in seeing him the People-pleasing version of Dwayne Johnson’s wrestling character, in the comments below.

* Sure, the wedding boos were gimmicked, but we still find it impressive.
