As we noted in the NFL schedule rest piece, we really have no idea how each NFL season will play out. We know how teams played last year and the quality of players that they gained and lost this offseason. As we saw with the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals last year, injuries can play huge roles while players can surprise and coaching, like with the Pittsburgh Steelers, can overcome a lot.

Last year, multiple times it was clear that the AFC North was the best division in football. By the end of the season, the division had joined a historical company. Our predraft AFC North power rankings were tough as the division is not easy to peg down then the four teams had quality classes in the NFL draft.

According to Pro Football Focus, the AFC North is the best division once again going into the 2024 NFL season:

The AFC North was projected as the strongest division in 2023, and despite some ups and downs, the stark reality is that this is more than likely the strongest division again heading into 2024.

PFF has the AFC East as the second-best division while the AFC West is ranked down at six despite having the Kansas City Chiefs. Shows how tough it will be for teams to fight their way through the AFC to make the playoffs.

Coming off a year when all four teams were above .500, it makes sense for the AFC North to be ranked at the top. By the end of the season, we will see if this continues or if we finally see a drop-off in competition for the Browns.

Do you agree that the AFC North is the best? What division would you rank second?
