AEW’s hot new power struggle stops the bleeding in the ratings

The ratings and viewership data are in for this week’s (May 1) episode of AEW Dynamite.

Per Wrestlenomics, Dynamite netted 703,000 viewers and a 0.24 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic. These numbers are slightly up from last week’s 683,000 and 0.23, respectively.

Last night’s AEW programming also included one hour of Rampage after Dynamite was over. That hour of Rampage brought in an average of 431,000 viewers and a 0.15 rating in the key demo.

During the Dynamite broadcast, Jack Perry called it a new era for AEW with The Elite running the show in Tony Khan’s absence. That new storyline, combined with Kenny Omega’s return, appear to have stopped the bleeding that was evident in recent Dynamite episodes that drew some of the lowest numbers in company history. These results are still very close to those levels, though, so AEW will have to keep pressing the gas pedal on this angle.

Meanwhile, these Rampage numbers are well above what it normally brings in on Friday nights without Dynamite as its lead-in. In fact, that 0.15 demo rating is actually better than what WWE NXT drew this week.

Overall, AEW Dynamite finished ahead of everything on cable besides the NBA and NHL playoffs, so Tony Khan is probably breathing a sigh of relief, while trying to figure out what he can do in the coming weeks to improve the numbers from here.

Here’s a breakdown of AEW Dynamite viewership and rating in the 18-49 demo over the last year:
