AEW must have heard the complaints about Swerve’s silence as the new world champion

on

Swerve Strickland became the new AEW world champion after defeating Samoa Joe at Dynasty. Swerve then beat Kyle Fletcher last night (April 24) on Dynamite in his first match as the champ.

In my preview of this week’s Dynamite, I wrote the following line about Swerve vs. Fletcher: “We’ll almost certainly hear from the new champ on the mic either before or after he wins.”

I should probably reevaluate my usage of the phrase “almost certainly,” because Swerve didn’t actually have anything to say on the mic. He remained silent after winning a back-and-forth match with Kyle, which left many pro wrestling fans scratching their heads. Swerve’s silence was especially baffling given that the world title of another wrestling promotion was featured in the Dynamite main event.

Well, either this was part of AEW’s grand plan all along, or they heard the criticism and are making an adjustment, because the promotion announced a short while ago that Swerve’s first interview as champ will now take place this Saturday night (April 26) on Collision.

Collision has an approximate start time of 8:30 pm ET, immediately following the NBA playoffs on TNT. It will be followed by Rampage for a three hour block of AEW programming on Saturday night. There’s potential for a much larger audience than usual for the opening segment of Collision due to the NBA playoffs lead-in.

Here’s the updated lineup for Collision and Rampage:

Collision

• Anna Jay vs. Timeless Toni Storm

• Bullet Club Gold (Jay White & The Gunns) (c) vs. Top Flight (Dante & Darius Martin) & Action Andretti for the Unified AEW Trios championship

• Swerve Strickland’s first interview as AEW world champion

Rampage

• Deonna Purrazzo vs. Thunder Rosa

• Trent Beretta vs. Chuck Taylor in a Parking Lot Fight

Will you stay tuned following the NBA playoffs Saturday night on TNT to hear what the new world champ has to say?
