AEW drops to one of its worst ratings of the year with Copeland vs. Christian main event

AEW Dynamite

The ratings and viewership data are in for this week’s (Dec. 6) episode of AEW Dynamite.

Per Wrestlenomics, Dynamite netted 823,000 viewers and a 0.25 rating with the 18-49 year old demographic. These numbers are down from last week’s 858,000 and 0.29, respectively.

The big draw for this episode of Dynamite was supposed to be the TNT title main event match between Adam Copeland and Christian Cage. AEW also promoted Toni Storm’s women’s world title defense against Skye Blue, an MJF & Samoa Joe tag team match against The Devil’s goons (that never happened), and three more Gold League matches in the Continental Classic tournament.

The sharp drop in the demo rating indicates this card wasn’t a hit with AEW fans; it was the third lowest demo rating for Dynamite thus far in 2023.

There wasn’t much evidence that Edge moved the needle for WWE during his comeback run from 2020 to 2023, and this number suggests that hasn’t changed in AEW. Perhaps it would have helped if folks thought Toni Storm’s challenger actually had a chance to win, or if the Continental Classic matches weren’t as lopsided on paper.

Next week is the Winter is Coming episode of Dynamite, which often provides a ratings boost for AEW. But this year’s card looks lackluster (compared to past years, anyway), so it’s not a lock that the demo rating will completely rebound from this week’s fall.

Here’s a breakdown of AEW viewership and rating in the 18-49 demo over the last year:
