A revolution in football? While we obviously know the frequent use of the yellow card and the red card in arbitration, new regulations could soon appear in the small pockets of the man in black. Cardboard… white! A novelty used for the first time in Portugal this Monday during a women’s cup match between Benfica and Sporting Lisbon (5-0).
The referee waved a white card at Benfica and Sporting medical services after they jointly attended to a fan who had passed out in the stands. It is therefore a card which, unlike the usual red and yellow, rewards “fair play”. The da Luz stadium, where the match was taking place, did not hesitate to applaud this action on the part of the refereeing body.
