Might the WWE Speed Champion be racing toward a heel turn?

Ricochet is reaching a breaking point in his career. After failing to advance in the King of the Ring tournament this week on Raw, he wrote on X, “Honestly, who gives a shit anymore.”

Ricochet’s social media post also included a video, where the light heavyweight sensation said of his losses in big match situations, “I can train. I can challenge myself. I can give everything I got. But it seems that it’s never enough. It’s never enough, not when it counts. It’s never enough. So, I find myself in this position. Almost every week, I find myself in this position. Something’s gotta change.”

For almost 20 years, Ricochet has wowed audiences globally, from the independent scene to New Japan Pro Wrestling to WWE. On paper, Ricochet is having a respectable 2024. He recently became the inaugural WWE Speed Champion, and until this week, the former Prince Puma was undefeated in singles action on Raw. He’s also posted an impressive win-loss total at live events.

But in recent months, Ricochet has displayed more of an edge on the microphone, his frustration with his position seemingly escalating. Now it’s on full display after coming up short against Ilja Dragunov, one of Raw’s newest recruits from the 2024 WWE Draft. Despite finding championship success in NXT and WWE’s main roster, Ricochet has struggled to return to the main event scene he enjoyed outside the company.

A longtime crowd favorite, Ricochet’s tone suggests he’s reached a threshold, and pleasing the fans may no longer be good enough for the high flyer. It’s hard to imagine the otherwise squeaky-clean Ricochet putting on the gruff exterior of a rogue warrior. However, his souring attitude might be enough to get fans to root against him if he goes the crying and cowardly route. Should the Speed Champion embrace the dark side, it’ll be interesting to see which WWE superstar might be the first to suffer his wrath.

What do you make of Ricochet’s frustrations, Cagesiders? Is it time for him to turn heel? What kind of villain do you see Ricochet becoming, and will it be enough to get him over the hump of WWE’s mid-card?
