2024 SEATTLE SUPERCROSS PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE
Supercross is headed back to the west coast specifically the Pacific Northwest in Seattle Washington for the next round of the 2024 Supercross series. In the 450 class, Jett Lawrence has found the momentum needed to carry him to three wins in the last three rounds, but that’s not to say he can let his guard down. Cooper Webb is still looking to make up valuable points as the season gets closer and closer to the final round. Ken Roczen has also been building in the last few weeks and is looking to grab his second win of the year. In the 250 class, Levi Kitchen holds the red plate after having a few weeks off due to the series being east. He is looking to maintain the moment had prior to the break but it will not be easy. The last time the west riders were on the track, Jordon Smith and RJ Hampshire showed winning speed and if they can minimize the mistakes have a chance to take the red plate away from Levi Kitchen.
2024 SEATTLE SUPERCROSS // FULL COVERAGE
CAN HE BE STOPPED?
Jett Lawrence has been riding extremely well the past few weekends, looking a lot like the rider he was in the outdoor motocross series where he went 22-0. In Birmingham, he was able to lead the race from start to finish, even with Cooper Webb applying the pressure early. Last week he was able to come through the pack multiple times to get into the lead and win all three of the main events of the Triple Crown. Ken Roczen however did test the Honda rider of Jett Lawrence and did not give up the positions easily but there was no stopping him from taking the win.
LEVI KITCHEN RETURNS TO SEATTLE
Levi Kitchen is the points leader heading into the Seattle Supercross. Though he has not been the fastest rider all season he has been the most consistent and has had minimal mistakes. At Anaheim 2 which was also a triple crown event, he showed tremendous speed and a winning mentality. Now after a few weeks off due to the series racing East, he has had time to reflect on his previous mistakes and go over a plan on how to maintain the red plate this weekend.
BEEN IN THIS POSITION BEFORE
Jordan Smith is currently four points behind the championship lead. For many, this would be a stressful position, being so close to achieving what these riders work so hard for. However, this is not the first time Jordan has been in this position. He has found himself in championship contention multiple times in his career, even losing the fight in the final round previously. Now, with significantly more maturity and mental strength, it is entirely within the realm of possibility that Jordan Smith could become the champion. He also needs to minimize mistakes, as he possesses the necessary speed.
INJURED LIST:
DYLAN FERRANDIS – INFECTION
Dylan Ferrandis will be sidelined again this weekend as after getting sick last weekend it has turned into a lung infection and he has not been able to ride over the last few weeks. He is on the mend and we will hopefully see him next weekend.
JUSTIN HILL – RIBS
Justin Hill had a scary crash in Daytona where his bike stalled in between one of the rhythm sections and Freddie Noren landed on him. He posted on Instagram that he had broken some ribs and some irregularities in his vertebrae and that he would be receiving more tests. It is uncertain of his return at this time
DEAN WILSON – SCAPULA
Dean Wilson experienced a hard crash at the Daytona Supercross, unfortunately resulting in a broken scapula in his shoulder. Despite the setback, Dean expressed his determination to recover and make it to the last few rounds of Supercross. This news comes as a significant blow for Dean, especially considering that this season marks his farewell to Supercross.
AUSTIN FORKNER – BACK & SHOULDER
Austin had one of the scarier crashes we’ve seen in a while where he came up short entering a rhythm section which knocked his hand off the bars and sent him flying onto the infield concrete. As a result, he fractured his L3-L4 in his spine as well as a fractured scapula. Fortunately, his injuries did not require surgery, and is expected to make a full recovery. We are unsure of his expected return, but it will not be for the rest of the Supercross season.
ENZO LOPES – FOREARM
Enzo Lopes underwent “Arm Pump” surgery on his forearms, which is claimed to help improve blood flow to the arms. This type of surgery usually takes a few weeks to recover from but in Enzo’s case, it has been lingering over the last couple of months.
Enzo Lopes stated: “Riding for Star Racing comes with a lot of expectations, especially after my momentum from last season. Unfortunately, the cards we were dealt with this off-season were out of our control, and with that, we agreed on missing Round 1 so that I can be back to 100% soon. I am super bummed, but I know in the long run this will be the best decision for me and also the team.”
JETT REYNOLDS – SHOULDER (OUT FOR SEASON)
Jett Reynolds suffered an AC separation to his shoulder in qualifying at Detroit. Then, while training this week, he crashed again.
ClubMX updated Jett’s recovery status: “Jett is back in California recovering from his shoulder surgery and should be starting physical therapy soon. Until then, he has maintained a workout schedule for the rest of his body to stay ready when he returns to racing. No date has been set at this point.”
CHRISTIAN CRAIG – ELBOW
Christian Craig posted on Instagram that he had been riding with elbow pain throughout the majority of the season. He said that this pain has been progressively increasing. He will be getting some tests done in the upcoming week to diagnose the injury. We are unsure if he will be on track in Birmingham.
Christian Craig stated: “Bummed to say I will be missing the race today in Dallas. I’ve been dealing with elbow pain that’s progressively getting worse since the season started. I’ve tried to push through it but unfortunately, it’s to the point where I can’t hang on after a few laps. Going to get some scans done and see what’s going on.”
EVAN FERRY – SHOULDER
Evan Ferry had a crash during press day for the Arlington Supercross causing an injury to his shoulder, and will sit out from racing. It is not clear the extent of the injury or how long before he returns to racing.
