Miami chose to draft Chop Robinson and Patrick Paul despite trade offers on the table.

The Miami Dolphins pursued depth on the offensive and defensive lines early in the NFL Draft with the selections of Chop Robinson and Patrick Paul. The Dolphins entered the 2024 draft with just six selections and chose a pair of high-upside prospects early instead of loading up on additional selections.

Robinson, an edge rusher out of Penn. State, could see action early but will likely slide behind Bradley Chubb and Jaelen Phillips when healthy. Paul started 44 games at left tackle while at Houston, and general manager Chris Grier said that the team isn’t planning to move him inside. He’s penciled in to sit behind Terron Armstead early in his NFL career.

The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson highlighted that Grier mentioned the team rejecting a handful of trades at No. 21 — and that there were offers for pick 55. Considering the team has needs at guard, receiver, defensive tackle, and safety, was it wise for Miami to value long-term depth over short-term needs?

The Dolphins have just $3 million in salary cap space with another $18 million available on June 1. On top of that, a late-round gem could hit the ground running with guidance from the coaching staff.

Let us know what you think — do you agree with Miami’s roster-building process through two days, or should they have traded back in hopes of filling more needs with additional draft picks?
