Current Michigan senior Cam Peel, a five-time NCAA relay All-American and 2021 NCAA ‘B’ finalist, has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. He has one more year of eligibility left, which is the extra year of eligibility given to all swimmers that competed during the 2020-21 NCAA season.
NOTE: A swimmer being in the transfer portal does not mean that they HAVE to transfer to another school, it only means that they have opened up communication with different schools and coaches.
Peel posted some of his fastest performances during the 2022-23 NCAA season, setting best times in his two primary events at the Big Ten Championships. He placed fifth in the 50 free (19.24) and 9th in the 100 free (42.73), though his personal best in the 50 free came from when he went 19.22 in a time trial. In addition, he was also 18th in the 100 fly (47.79).
At NCAAs, Peel qualified as a relay-only swimmer. He swam on Michigan’s 200 and 400 free relays, splitting 18.81 on the 200 free relay to help the Wolverines finish 13th, and splitting 42.34 on the 400 free relay en route to a 16th place finish. On the 200 free relay, he was the only Michigan swimmer to split sub-19. Peel’s splits at NCAAs this year were his fastest ever at the meet.
Peel was also a relay-only swimmer at 2022 NCAAs, though he qualified to swim the 50 and 100 free individually at 2021 NCAAs. At that meet, he placed 16th in the 50 free (19.44) and 37th in the 100 free (43.22).

- 100 fly: 47.28
If Peel transfers, then Michigan will lose two of their ace sprinters next season, as fifth-year and 200/400 free relay member Nicola Acin will be leaving as well.
